German Spitz Colors


German Spitz colors as defined in the FCI breed standard:

a) Wolf Spitz/Keeshond: grey shaded
b) Grosspitz: black, brown, white
c) Mittel or Medium-sized Spitz: black, brown, white, orange, grey-shaded, other colors
d) Klein or Miniature Spitz: black, brown, white, orange, grey-shaded, other colors
e) Zwergspitz/Pomeranian: black, brown, white, orange, grey-shaded, other colors

Color definitions:

Black:  The undercoat and skin must also be black, and the color on top must be a shining black without any white or other markings.
Brown: Uniformly dark brown.
White: Pure white without any trace of yellow including on the ears where it often occurs.
Orange:  Evenly colored in the medium color range.
Grey-shaded (Keeshond): Silver grey with black hair tips. Muzzle and ears dark in color; well-defined "spectacles" around the eyes shown as a delicately pencilled black line slanting from outer corner of eye to lower corner of ear, coupled with distinct markings and shading forming expressive short eyebrow; mane and ring on shoulder lighter; fore and hindlegs without any black marking under the elbows or stifles, except slight pencilling on the toes; black tip of tail; underside of tail and trousers pale silver grey.
Other colors: The term "other colors" covers all shades of color such as cream, cream-sable, orange-sable, black and tan and particolor (with white always as the main color). The black, brown, grey or orange patches must be distributed over the whole body.

An orange with black tips of hair.
 

Creme

An even creme color.

Creme-sable

Creme-sable
A creme with black tips of hair.
 

Particolor

Particolor
with creme-sable patches. Always two colors with black, brown, grey or orange patches distributed over the whole body; white as the main color. 

Grey-shaded

Grey-shaded
A silver grey with black tips of hair. Muzzle should not be too dark; mane and ring on shoulders should be lighter. No black markings below elbows or stifles. Black tip of tail; underside of tail and trousers pale silver grey.
 


Incorrect colors
 

Incorrect Particolor

A particolor who does not have white as the main color. Ticks on the legs.

Poor black

Poorly colored black, who has grey hair on its shoulders, trousers and tail.
 

Incorrect sable

Incorrect sable  whose color is too black. White patches.

Orange with brown pigment

Orange with brown pigment.

Liver sable, brown pigment

Liver sable with brown pigment and brown hair tips.
 


Nose pigment should be black with the exception of browns whose nose pigment is dark brown.

Eyelids are dark brown in brown dogs; black in all other  shades of color.


Interbreeding:

In the country of origin (Germany), interbreeding in the Klein Spitz is allowed as follows: black and brown to blacks and brown; white to white; other colors to other colors. There are no color restrictions in Pomeranian breeding.
